Funerary stele (?)

The basalt stele fragment was found in the vicinity of Gaziantep. It is 76 cm in height, 46 cm in width, and 15 cm in thickness. It has only the upper body of a male figure and the surface of the head section has been abraded considerably. There is long object extending down from his left hand, perhaps a club or a leash. He is wearing a sword on his belt. A date in the second half of the 8th century BCE has been suggested. It is in the inventory of the Gaziantep Archaeology Museum.
