Stele Fragment

The basalt stele fragment is about 47 cm high and 53 cm wide. In the foreground, it shows a male figure with a bow on his right shoulder and a sword on his belt. Although not clearly visible, he is probably on the back of a horse and holding the reins with his left hand. In the background is a seated woman, and in the upper right corner is a servant with a palm leaf. It has been dated to the 8th century BCE. Apparently shortly before 1910, the stele fragment entered into the possession of the Vorderasiatisches Museum in Berlin, where it is currently on display.
