Funerary Stele

The basalt stele is about 1 m high and 0.87 m wide. It depicts a typical dining scene, a couple in front of a small table with some dish on it. The woman is holding a mirror in the right hand and a distaff in the left. The clenched hands of the man appear to be holding something, but no trace of an object is visible. The unprovenanced stele was acquired by Staatliche Antikensammlungen of Munich in 1988. It is very likely that it originates from the region of Maraş. Stylistically, the stele might be dated to sometime in the second half of the 9th century BCE.
