Funerary Stele

The basalt stele was found in 2013 during construction activities in the Yörükselim district of Kahramanmaraş. It is approximately 0.7 m high and 0.61 m wide. A male and female couple are seen sitting opposite each other on either side of a really small table. A small male figure, probably representing their children, is depicted on the woman's skirt. The woman holds a distaff in her left hand. The man has a disproportionately long arm wrapped around the woman's shoulder. It can be dated to sometime in the late 9th century to the early 8th century BCE. The stele is in the inventory of the Kahramanmaraş Museum.
