ALACAHÖYÜK 2

The basalt fragment was found in 1893 near the South Gate of Alacahöyük by E. Chantre during his research at the site. It was probably part of a longer inscription. Subsequently, the fragment must have been damaged further, as until recently a piece of it that included the "city" (URU) sign was still visible at the site (see image below). A cast of the fragment is in the inventory of the Anatolian Civilizations Museum in Ankara.
