Fragmental Statue Base
The basalt fragment belongs to the front section of a statue base with double lions and a "master of the beast" in between. It was found at the end of the 2011 season. Archaeologists suggest that, like other sculptured pieces found in the area, this was probably one of the monuments that decorated the ceremonial gateway that led to the citadel. It is very similar to the examples found in Karkamış and Zincirli, and once must have supported a large statue.
