Protective deity

The basalt relief depicts a deity and belongs to an orthostat on the west wing of the Gatehouse at the top of the Great Staircase. The first image below, taken in 1884, shows the relief more or less complete. The top section has been destroyed subsequently, and the remaining parts are in the Anatolian Civilizations Museum in Ankara. Stylistically, it shows heavy Assyrian influence and has been dated to the late 8th century BCE.
