The Storm-god(?) Stele

Top half of the basalt stele is about 60 cm high, 35 cm wide, and 20 cm deep. According to Woolley, it was brought from the village of Shamak, which lies about 18 km to the southeast of Karkamış. Details of the male figure shown below the winged sun-disk are not clear. The Luwian inscription that surrounds the stele is only partially readable and mentions the Storm-god and Sun-god. It may date to the 8th century BCE and is currently in the Anatolian Civilizations Museum in Ankara.
