HOME - KARKAMIŞ TÜRKÇE Inscribed statue base The basalt half drum-shaped block was found in an area west of the Hilani building. It may have served as a statue base. The block is 43 cm high and 80 cm in diameter. Yariri, the regent of Kamani, is the author of the four-line Luwian inscription on its side and the single-line inscription on the top (KARKAMIŠ 15b), which concerns his accomplishments in Karkamiš. Yariri claims he could speak 12 languages and could write in Karkamiš writing (Luwian Hieroglyphs), Assyrian writing (cuneiform script), Phoenician writing (Phoenician alphabet), and Taimani writing (Aramaic alphabet?). The inscription should date to around the late 9th to early 8th century BCE and currently in the Anatolian Civilizations Museum in Ankara. |
