Relief of a God and Goddess

The basalt relief fragment belongs to an orthostat of the Long Wall and dates from about 850-750 BCE. It is on display in the Anatolian Civilizations Museum in Ankara. The Storm God in front is shown with a raised hand holding an axe, and behind him is a goddess. The upper fragment of the Storm God figure has been lost subsequent to initial excavations. The upper section of the goddess in the museum is reconstructed based on similar reliefs.
